Thai basil squid is a popular Thai recipe using squid, basil leaves, and green beans. Other proteins like minced pork, chicken, beef, and shrimp may be used in place of squid.
Notes:
Tbsp = tablespoon
Chopped = chopped or cut into ½ cm pieces
Preparation before cooking
Slice the squid into 2 cm pieces and marinate with lime juice. Then sprinkle with black pepper and leave it for 10 minutes prior to cooking.
How to prepare Thai style stir Fried squid With basil leaves
- Heat oil over high heat in a pan.
- Add garlic and onions when the oil is hot.
- Sauté for 2 minutes or until the garlic and the onions are fragrant.
- Add the marinated squid slices to the pan and sauté for 5 minutes or until it is fully cooked.
- After that, toss the green beans and chillies into the pan and add sugar and fish sauce.
- Stir and mix all the ingredients and sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add the basil leaves and stir and sauté for another 30 seconds.
- Turn off the heat. Squeeze some lime juice and sprinkle a pinch of chili powder over the dish.
- Plate it and serve hot.

Ingredients
200 g fresh squid sliced into 2 to 3 cm pieces.
3 to 4 cloves garlic, chopped.
1 medium or large onion, chopped.
100 g green beans finely chopped.
2 red chillies, chopped.
1 cup basil leaves.
2 tbsp cooking oil.
1 to 2 tbsp fish sauce.
1 tbsp light soy sauce.
¼ tbsp black pepper powder.
½ tbsp sugar.
A pinch of chilli powder.
1 lime for lime juice.
2 bird’s eyes chillies, chopped. To be omittted if the dish is to be less spicy.
